PAIRES BIEN AVEC: THE JENNY CARIBBEAN 300

Hier, nous avons revu la Jenny Caribbean 300, une réédition colorée d'un plongeur aimé des années 60 reproduit en 2012/13 pour célébrer le 50ème anniversaire de la création de la marque. Avec son cadran coloré (quelle beauté est ce bleu?) Et une excellente qualité de construction, la Caribbean 300 est une montre de week-end ludique, surtout maintenant que c'est l'été dans l'hémisphère nord (désolé Australie). Pour cette édition de Pairs Well With, nous sommes à la hauteur de la Caribbean 300 avec quelques ratés dignes d'un BBQ au bord de la piscine. Avec le 4 juillet au coin de la rue, vous pouvez passer votre week-end à savourer votre hamburger, votre bière et à regarder avec style.

Sunglasses can be painfully expensive. Raen Optics aims to make buying a pair a little less so. Their collection of hand-made frames won’t break the bank, coming in far below the price point of most competitors at approximately $100 to $185. The collaboration between retail powerhouse Uniqlo and Michael Bastian proves that style need not be expensive. When the two joined forces in 2013, the first fruit of their labor was a line of retro-inspired polo shirts offered in an array of fun colors and patterns. Since then, the collection has grown to include tees, tanks, and shorts.

Though there are a number of great options to choose from, this polo in particular is my favorite. It’s unique in that it doesn’t have a placket, but instead features a deep ribbed v-neck and cuffs in a contrasting color. It’s a nice complement to a casual summer outfit that will certainly elevate your look while keeping you comfortable, and at just $22.90 a pop (and $14.90 as of this writing), it’s a no-brainer.

Nylon military straps are a dime a dozen these days, and for good reason. They look great paired with a number of watches, none more so than divers. But for something a little more unique and playful, try on a braided nylon (also called perlon) strap from our friends over at Crown&Buckle. It’s an attractive, quick-drying option that adds a little bit of texture to the wrist. Crown&Buckle has a number of colors to choose from, but I’d go with the super versatile charcoal featured here.

Onia is a company that excels at making swimwear that doesn’t look like swimwear. Case in point, the Calder 7.5″ shorts, the brand’s signature style. The cut, styling, and details (zip fly, snap closure, side and rear pockets) are all inspired by classic chinos and high-end dress pants, so they don’t look like swim trunks but rather like a pair of fitted shorts. But instead of cotton twill, Onia opts for a quick-drying 55% cotton/45% nylon blend paired with a superfine mesh lining, so you should feel comfrtable in or out of the pool.

We’ve covered Rancourt on multiple occasions in the past, normally writing about their line of great hand-sewn shoes. Though the company is known primarily for their moccasins, they’ve recently expanded into other styles, among them bluchers, boots, and most recently, a collection of Maine-made leather tennis sneakers dubbed the Court Classic.

The uppers are full-grain cowhide called “Weston,” tanned in Maine by Tasman Leather Group, a tannery with nearly 70 years of experience. The uppers are lined with horsehide from Horween, and the removable insole is leather over molded latex for optimal comfort. The soles are from Italy’s Vibram, a company known primarily for producing heavy-duty rubber soles found on many higher-end shoes and boots, so they’re sure to be long-lasting. These are sneakers that should be treated like a quality pair of shoes. Wear them with or without socks this summer, but get yourself some shoe trees.
